Our analysis looked at 475 schools in the Great Lakes Region to see which undergraduate certificate programs were the most popular for trade school students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our 2023 rankings named Ivy Tech Community College the most popular school in the Great Lakes Region for trade school students working on their undergraduate certificate. Located in Indianapolis, Indiana, the large public school awarded 11,706 diplomas to qualifed undergraduate certificate students in 2021-2022.
In-state students pay an average of $4,637 in tuition and fees if they attend Ivy Tech Community College full time. Out-of-state students pay an average of $8,927. By the time they get their undergraduate certificate, students from this school have racked up an average of $9,816 in student loans. Of those students who received their degree, 57% were women.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online classes at Ivy Tech Community College. Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2020-2021 academic year, around 33% took at least some of their classes online.
A rank of #2 on this year’s list means DeVry University - Illinois is a great place for trade school students working on their undergraduate certificate. DeVry University - Illinois is a large private for-profit school located in Naperville, Illinois that handed out 2,903 undergraduate certificates in 2021-2022.
The average tuition and fees at DeVry University - Illinois is $15,032. In-state students do not receive a discount, however you may be able to reduce your price if you receive financial aid. By the time they get their undergraduate certificate, students from this school have racked up an average of $16,207 in student loans. Around 88% of those degree recipients were women.

You’ll be in good company if you attend Midwest Technical Institute - Springfield, Illinois. The school came in at #3 on this year’s Most Popular Undergraduate Certificate Trade Schools in the Great Lakes Region list. MTI - Springfield, Illinois is a small private for-profit school situated in Springfield, Illinois. It awarded 983 undergraduate certificates in 2021-2022.
By the time they get their undergraduate certificate, students from this school have racked up an average of $8,868 in student loans. Around 49% of those degree recipients were women.

Out of the 475 schools in the Great Lakes Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Milwaukee Area Technical College landed the # 4 spot on the list. Milwaukee, Wisconsin is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out undergraduate certificates to 575 students in 2021-2022.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at MATC is $4,867. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $7,018. Universal Technical Institute - Illinois ranked #7 on this year’s Most Popular Undergraduate Certificate Trade Schools in the Great Lakes Region list. Located in Lisle, Illinois, the small private for-profit school handed out 627 undergraduate certificate awards in 2021-2022.

Chippewa Valley Technical College ranked #8 on this year’s Most Popular Undergraduate Certificate Trade Schools in the Great Lakes Region list. CVTC is a medium-sized public school situated in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. It awarded 500 undergraduate certificates in 2021-2022.
In-state students pay an average of $4,642 in tuition and fees if they attend CVTC full time. Out-of-state students pay an average of $6,793. MIAT College of Technology ranked #10 on this year’s Most Popular Undergraduate Certificate Trade Schools in the Great Lakes Region list. MIAT College of Technology is a small private for-profit school situated in Canton, Michigan. It awarded 633 undergraduate certificates in 2021-2022.
On average, undergraduate certificate students take out $13,259 in loans while pursuing their degree. Around 7% of those degree recipients were women.

With a ranking of #12, Waukesha County Technical College did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for trade school students working on their undergraduate certificate. Located in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, the medium-sized public school awarded 400 diplomas to qualifed undergraduate certificate students in 2021-2022.
In-state students pay an average of $4,571 in tuition and fees if they attend WCTC full time. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $6,722. On average, undergraduate certificate students take out $9,072 in loans while pursuing their degree. Around 25% of those degree recipients were women.
Online courses are available at WCTC, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. In 2020-2021 about 22% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Madison Area Technical College ranked #13 on this year’s Most Popular Undergraduate Certificate Trade Schools in the Great Lakes Region list. Madison Area Technical College is a fairly large public school located in Madison, Wisconsin that handed out 633 undergraduate certificates in 2021-2022.
Full-time students from Wisconsin pay an average of $4,607 in tuition and fees if they choose to attend Madison College. Out-of-state students pay an average of $6,812. On average, undergraduate certificate students take out $12,509 in loans while pursuing their degree. Around 57% of those degree recipients were women.

Located in Lansing, Michigan, the medium-sized public school handed out 450 undergraduate certificate awards in 2021-2022.
Students from Michigan who attend LCC full time pay an average of $7,340 in tuition and fees. Out-of-state students pay an average of $10,760. By the time they get their undergraduate certificate, students from this school have racked up an average of $11,005 in student loans. Around 58% of those degree recipients were women.

Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2020-2021 academic year, around 90% took at least some of their classes online.
With a ranking of #15, Columbus State Community College did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for trade school students working on their undergraduate certificate. Columbus, Ohio is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out undergraduate certificates to 328 students in 2021-2022.

Douglas J Aveda Institute came in at #16 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Undergraduate Certificate Trade Schools in the Great Lakes Region ranking. Located in East Lansing, Michigan, the very small private for-profit school handed out 317 undergraduate certificate awards in 2021-2022.
On average, undergraduate certificate students take out $7,266 in loans while pursuing their degree. Around 91% of those degree recipients were women.
With a ranking of #17, Dorsey College, Woodhaven did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for trade school students working on their undergraduate certificate. Located in Madison Heights, Michigan, the very small private for-profit school handed out 271 undergraduate certificate awards in 2021-2022.
If you want to attend Dorsey College, Woodhaven, expect to pay an average of $31,680 in tuition and fees. Of course, this could be reduced if you receive financial aid. Undergraduate Certificate recipients from Dorsey College, Woodhaven accumulate an average of $11,919 in student debt by the time they complete their degree. Around 82% of those degree recipients were women.
Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College came in at #18 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Undergraduate Certificate Trade Schools in the Great Lakes Region ranking. Located in Shell Lake, Wisconsin, the small public school handed out 477 undergraduate certificate awards in 2021-2022.
Undergraduate Certificate recipients from WITC accumulate an average of $8,643 in student debt by the time they complete their degree. Of those students who received their degree, 61% were women.
Some students may be able to take online classes at WITC. In fact, around 73% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2020-2021.
Macomb Community College landed the #19 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular undergraduate certificate trade school programs. Warren, Michigan is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out undergraduate certificates to 316 students in 2021-2022.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at Macomb Community College is $6,210. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $7,830. Of those students who received their degree, 28% were women.
One thing to take note of is that Macomb Community College does offer online classes in some areas. Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2020-2021 academic year, around 89% took at least some of their classes online.
Lincoln College of Technology - Melrose Park ranked #20 on this year’s Most Popular Undergraduate Certificate Trade Schools in the Great Lakes Region list. Located in Melrose Park, Illinois, the small private for-profit school awarded 310 diplomas to qualifed undergraduate certificate students in 2021-2022.
Undergraduate Certificate recipients from Lincoln Tech - Melrose Park accumulate an average of $11,984 in student debt by the time they complete their degree. Around 53% of those degree recipients were women.
Sinclair Community College did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for trade school students to get an undergraduate certificate. It came in at #21 on the list. Sinclair Community College is located in Dayton, Ohio and has a fairly large student population. In 2021-2022, this school awarded 686 undergraduate certificates to qualified students.
In-state students pay an average of $4,569 in tuition and fees if they attend Sinclair Community College full time. Out-of-state students pay an average of $8,316. By the time they get their undergraduate certificate, students from this school have racked up an average of $7,117 in student loans. Of those students who received their degree, 42% were women.

On average, undergraduate certificate students take out $7,821 in loans while pursuing their degree. Around 4% of those degree recipients were women.
