Our analysis looked at 83 schools in New York to see which associate degree programs were the most popular for trade school students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our 2023 rankings named Culinary Institute of America the most popular school in New York for trade school students working on their associate degree. Culinary Institute of America is a small private not-for-profit school located in Hyde Park, New York that handed out 564 associate degrees in 2021-2022.
If you want to attend The Culinary Institute of America, expect to pay an average of $36,620 in tuition and fees. Of course, this could be reduced if you receive financial aid. Associate Degree recipients from The Culinary Institute of America accumulate an average of $12,958 in student debt by the time they complete their degree. City Tech is located in Brooklyn, New York and has a fairly large student population. In 2021-2022, this school awarded 1,252 associate degrees to qualified students.
Students from New York who attend City Tech full time pay an average of $7,320 in tuition and fees. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $15,270. On average, associate degree students take out $10,175 in loans while pursuing their degree. Of those students who received their degree, 51% were women.
Some students may be able to take online classes at City Tech. Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2020-2021 academic year, around 96% took at least some of their classes online.
The excellent associate degree programs at Alfred State College helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular trade school schools in New York. This small public school is located in Alfred, New York, and it awarded 687 associate degrees in 2021-2022.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at Alfred State is $8,862. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $15,942. On average, associate degree students take out $14,985 in loans while pursuing their degree. Of those students who received their degree, 37% were women.

Out of the 83 schools in New York that were part of this year’s ranking, Hudson Valley Community College landed the # 4 spot on the list. HVCC is located in Troy, New York and has a medium-sized student population. In 2021-2022, this school awarded 1,310 associate degrees to qualified students.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at HVCC is $6,018. Out-of-state students pay an average of $10,818. By the time they get their associate degree, students from this school have racked up an average of $11,714 in student loans. Around 49% of those degree recipients were women.

Since Excelsior University is primarily an online school, it is an excellent choice for undergraduate students who need more flexibility than what is offered at some other schools.
With a ranking of #8, SUNY Broome did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for trade school students working on their associate degree. Located in Binghamton, New York, the medium-sized public school awarded 680 diplomas to qualifed associate degree students in 2021-2022.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at SUNY Broome is $6,704. Out-of-state students pay an average of $11,984. By the time they get their associate degree, students from this school have racked up an average of $14,343 in student loans. Around 65% of those degree recipients were women.

Erie Community College ranked #8 on this year’s Most Popular Associate Degree Trade Schools in New York list. Erie Community College is a public institution located in Buffalo, New York. The school has a medium-sized population, and it awarded 1,364 associate degrees in 2021-2022.

Borough of Manhattan Community College landed the #14 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular associate degree trade school programs. BMCC is a public institution located in New York, New York. The school has a fairly large population, and it awarded 3,971 associate degrees in 2021-2022.
Full-time students from New York pay an average of $5,170 in tuition and fees if they choose to attend BMCC. Out-of-state students pay an average of $8,050. Niagara County Community College is a public institution located in Sanborn, New York. The school has a small population, and it awarded 701 associate degrees in 2021-2022.
Full-time students from New York pay an average of $6,165 in tuition and fees if they choose to attend Niagara County Community College. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $11,205.
