Our analysis looked at 83 schools in New York to see which associate degree programs were the most popular for trade school students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our 2023 rankings named Culinary Institute of America the most popular school in New York for trade school students working on their associate degree. Hyde Park, New York is the setting for this small institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out associate degrees to 564 students in 2021-2022.
If you want to attend The Culinary Institute of America, expect to pay an average of $36,620 in tuition and fees. Of course, this could be reduced if you receive financial aid. On average, associate degree students take out $12,958 in loans while pursuing their degree. Around 47% of those degree recipients were women.
One thing to take note of is that The Culinary Institute of America does offer online classes in some areas. In 2020-2021 about 61% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
You’ll be in good company if you attend New York City College of Technology. The school came in at #2 on this year’s Most Popular Associate Degree Trade Schools in New York list. New York City College of Technology is a fairly large public school located in Brooklyn, New York that handed out 1,252 associate degrees in 2021-2022.
Full-time students from New York pay an average of $7,320 in tuition and fees if they choose to attend City Tech. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $15,270. By the time they get their associate degree, students from this school have racked up an average of $10,175 in student loans. Around 51% of those degree recipients were women.
City Tech does have options available for those who want to take online classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. In 2020-2021 about 96% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
The excellent associate degree programs at Alfred State College helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular trade school schools in New York. Alfred State is a public institution located in Alfred, New York. The school has a small population, and it awarded 687 associate degrees in 2021-2022.
In-state students pay an average of $8,862 in tuition and fees if they attend Alfred State full time. Out-of-state students pay an average of $15,942. By the time they get their associate degree, students from this school have racked up an average of $14,985 in student loans. Around 37% of those degree recipients were women.
Alfred State does have options available for those who want to take online classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. In fact, around 34% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2020-2021.

Hudson Valley Community College is a medium-sized public school located in Troy, New York that handed out 1,310 associate degrees in 2021-2022.

Excelsior University landed the #7 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular associate degree trade school programs. Excelsior University is a fairly large private not-for-profit school located in Albany, New York that handed out 1,240 associate degrees in 2021-2022.
Associate Degree recipients from Excelsior University accumulate an average of $12,110 in student debt by the time they complete their degree. Around 60% of those degree recipients were women.

SUNY Broome came in at #8 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Associate Degree Trade Schools in New York ranking. This medium-sized public school is located in Binghamton, New York, and it awarded 680 associate degrees in 2021-2022.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at SUNY Broome is $6,704. Out-of-state students pay an average of $11,984. By the time they get their associate degree, students from this school have racked up an average of $14,343 in student loans. Around 65% of those degree recipients were women.

Erie Community College landed the #8 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular associate degree trade school programs. Buffalo, New York is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The public school handed out associate degrees to 1,364 students in 2021-2022.
Students from New York who attend Erie Community College full time pay an average of $5,950 in tuition and fees. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $11,150. By the time they get their associate degree, students from this school have racked up an average of $10,690 in student loans. Around 56% of those degree recipients were women.

With a ranking of #10, Monroe College did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for trade school students working on their associate degree. Monroe College is a medium-sized private for-profit school situated in Bronx, New York. It awarded 875 associate degrees in 2021-2022.
Monroe College does not offer a discount to in-state students, so the average tuition and fees for all undergraduates is $17,442. This amount may be reduced if you receive financial aid. Suffolk County Community College did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for trade school students to get an associate degree. It came in at #15 on the list. This large public school is located in Selden, New York, and it awarded 2,922 associate degrees in 2021-2022.
Students from New York who attend Suffolk County Community College full time pay an average of $6,270 in tuition and fees. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $11,740. Associate Degree recipients from Suffolk County Community College accumulate an average of $9,363 in student debt by the time they complete their degree. Around 58% of those degree recipients were women.

Kingsborough Community College landed the #16 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular associate degree trade school programs. KCC is a public institution located in Brooklyn, New York. The school has a fairly large population, and it awarded 1,749 associate degrees in 2021-2022.

Bryant & Stratton College - Online is a medium-sized private not-for-profit school situated in Orchard Park, New York. It awarded 902 associate degrees in 2021-2022.

Niagara County Community College is a small public school located in Sanborn, New York that handed out 701 associate degrees in 2021-2022.

Plaza College came in at #23 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Associate Degree Trade Schools in New York ranking. Located in Forest Hills, New York, the very small private for-profit school handed out 217 associate degree awards in 2021-2022.

New York, New York is the setting for this small institution of higher learning. The private for-profit school handed out associate degrees to 233 students in 2021-2022.

With a ranking of #25, Onondaga Community College did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for trade school students working on their associate degree. Located in Syracuse, New York, the medium-sized public school awarded 887 diplomas to qualifed associate degree students in 2021-2022.
Full-time students from New York pay an average of $5,890 in tuition and fees if they choose to attend OCC. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $11,080. By the time they get their associate degree, students from this school have racked up an average of $11,909 in student loans. Around 54% of those degree recipients were women.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online classes at OCC. In fact, around 18% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2020-2021.
