Our analysis looked at 45 schools in the New England Region to see which basic certificate programs offered the best educational experiences for trade school students.

Our analysis found Bunker Hill Community College to be the best school for trade school students who want to pursue a basic certificate in the New England Region . BHCC is a public institution located in Boston, Massachusetts. The school has a medium-sized population, and it awarded 204 basic certificates in 2021-2022.

In-state students pay an average of $16,182 in tuition and fees if they attend UMass Lowell full time. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $34,550.
Online courses are available at UMass Lowell, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. In fact, around 28% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2020-2021.
Champlain College ranked #10 on this year’s Best Basic Certificate Trade Schools in the New England Region list. Champlain College is a small private not-for-profit school located in Burlington, Vermont that handed out 246 basic certificates in 2021-2022.
Champlain does not offer a discount to in-state students, so the average tuition and fees for all undergraduates is $44,220. This amount may be reduced if you receive financial aid.

Full-time students from New Hampshire pay an average of $7,200 in tuition and fees if they choose to attend NHTI. Out-of-state students pay an average of $15,450.

Middlesex Community College did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best places for trade school students to get a basic certificate. It came in at #19 on the list. This medium-sized public school is located in Bedford, Massachusetts, and it awarded 165 basic certificates in 2021-2022.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at Middlesex Community College is $6,098. Out-of-state students pay an average of $12,170.
