Our 2023 rankings named Rochester Institute of Technology the best school in New York for trade school students working on their basic certificate. RIT is located in Rochester, New York and has a fairly large student population. In 2021-2022, this school awarded 9 basic certificates to qualified students.
If you want to attend RIT, expect to pay an average of $53,538 in tuition and fees. Of course, this could be reduced if you receive financial aid.
You may have the opportunity to take online classes at RIT. Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2020-2021 academic year, around 66% took at least some of their classes online.
The excellent basic certificate programs at The Graduate Center, CUNY helped the school earn the #2 place on this year’s ranking of the best trade school schools in New York. The Graduate Center is a public institution located in New York, New York. The school has a medium-sized population, and it awarded 62 basic certificates in 2021-2022.
Full-time students from New York pay an average of $7,410 in tuition and fees if they choose to attend The Graduate Center. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $15,360.

The school came in at #3 on this year’s Best Basic Certificate Trade Schools in New York list. SJC is a private not-for-profit institution located in Brooklyn, New York. The school has a small population, and it awarded 45 basic certificates in 2021-2022.
If you don’t receive financial aid, you can expect a bill for $32,370 to cover tuition and fees at SJC. The school does not offer an in-state discount.
One thing to take note of is that SJC does offer online classes in some areas. In 2020-2021 about 53% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
The excellent basic certificate programs at SUNY Empire State College helped the school earn the #4 place on this year’s ranking of the best trade school schools in New York. SUNY Empire State College is a medium-sized public school located in Saratoga Springs, New York that handed out 19 basic certificates in 2021-2022.
Full-time students from New York pay an average of $7,630 in tuition and fees if they choose to attend SUNY Empire. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $17,540.

Students from New York who attend KCC full time pay an average of $5,252 in tuition and fees. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $8,132.
