To assist you in seeing some of the education options that are available to you, Trade College Search has created its Most Popular Basic Certificate Trade Schools in Texas ranking. This report analyzed 201 schools in Texas to see which ones were the most popular basic certificate programs for trade school students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our 2023 rankings named Lone Star College System the most popular school in Texas for trade school students working on their basic certificate. North Harris Montgomery is a public institution located in The Woodlands, Texas. The school has a large population, and it awarded 1,579 basic certificates in 2021-2022.
Around 39% of those degree recipients were women.
Some students may be able to take online classes at North Harris Montgomery. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 67% of undergraduates took at least one course online in 2020-2021.
The excellent basic certificate programs at Tulsa Welding School-Houston helped the school earn the #2 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular trade school schools in Texas. This small private for-profit school is located in Houston, Texas, and it awarded 1,055 basic certificates in 2021-2022.
Of those students who received their degree, 9% were women.
A rank of #3 on this year’s list means El Centro College is a great place for trade school students working on their basic certificate. Dallas, Texas is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out basic certificates to 2,819 students in 2021-2022.
Of those students who received their degree, 46% were women.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online classes at El Centro College. In 2020-2021 about 70% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
A rank of #4 on this year’s list means Lee College is a great place for trade school students working on their basic certificate. Lee College is located in Baytown, Texas and has a medium-sized student population. In 2021-2022, this school awarded 2,298 basic certificates to qualified students.
Students from Texas who attend Lee College full time pay an average of $3,882 in tuition and fees. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $4,302. Of those students who received their degree, 16% were women.
Some students may be able to take online classes at Lee College. Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2020-2021 academic year, around 40% took at least some of their classes online.
Out of the 201 schools in Texas that were part of this year’s ranking, St Philip’s College landed the # 5 spot on the list. St Philip’s College is a fairly large public school situated in San Antonio, Texas. It awarded 803 basic certificates in 2021-2022.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at St Philip’s College is $6,742. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $14,272. Of those students who received their degree, 24% were women.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online classes at St Philip’s College. In fact, around 64% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2020-2021.
With a ranking of #6, South Texas College did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for trade school students working on their basic certificate. McAllen, Texas is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out basic certificates to 967 students in 2021-2022.
Of those students who received their degree, 47% were women.
South Texas College does offer online classes for certain degree levels. In fact, around 58% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2020-2021.
Collin County Community College District ranked #7 on this year’s Most Popular Basic Certificate Trade Schools in Texas list. Collin County Community College District is a large public school situated in McKinney, Texas. It awarded 1,100 basic certificates in 2021-2022.
In-state students pay an average of $3,514 in tuition and fees if they attend Collin County Community College District full time. Out-of-state students pay an average of $5,614. Of those students who received their degree, 37% were women.
You may have the opportunity to take online classes at Collin County Community College District. Of all the undergraduates enrolled at the school during the 2020-2021 academic year, around 40% took at least some of their classes online.
Western Technical College did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for trade school students to get a basic certificate. It came in at #8 on the list. Located in El Paso, Texas, the small private for-profit school handed out 379 basic certificate awards in 2021-2022.
Of those students who received their degree, 7% were women.
Austin Community College District ranked #9 on this year’s Most Popular Basic Certificate Trade Schools in Texas list. Austin Community College District is a public institution located in Austin, Texas. The school has a large population, and it awarded 2,130 basic certificates in 2021-2022.
Full-time students from Texas pay an average of $8,580 in tuition and fees if they choose to attend Austin Community College District. Out-of-state students pay an average of $10,590. Of those students who received their degree, 40% were women.

Concorde Career College - Grand Prairie did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for trade school students to get a basic certificate. It came in at #11 on the list. Concorde Career College - Grand Prairie is located in Grand Prairie, Texas and has a very small student population. In 2021-2022, this school awarded 285 basic certificates to qualified students.
Around 92% of those degree recipients were women.

Ogle School Hair Skin Nails-Stafford ranked #15 on this year’s Most Popular Basic Certificate Trade Schools in Texas list. This very small private for-profit school is located in Stafford, Texas, and it awarded 220 basic certificates in 2021-2022.
Around 97% of those degree recipients were women.
With a ranking of #16, Southern Careers Institute - San Antonio (NW Loop) did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for trade school students working on their basic certificate. Located in San Antonio, Texas, the very small private for-profit school awarded 328 diplomas to qualifed basic certificate students in 2021-2022.
Around 16% of those degree recipients were women.
Since Southern Careers Institute - San Antonio (NW Loop) is primarily an online school, it is an excellent choice for undergraduate students who need more flexibility than what is offered at some other schools.

College of the Mainland landed the #17 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular basic certificate trade school programs. Located in Texas City, Texas, the small public school awarded 109 diplomas to qualifed basic certificate students in 2021-2022.
Full-time students from Texas pay an average of $2,973 in tuition and fees if they choose to attend COM. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $3,873. Of those students who received their degree, 63% were women.
COM does have options available for those who want to take online classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. During the 2020-2021 year, about 41% of the undergraduates at the school took at least one online course.
RGV Careers did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for trade school students to get a basic certificate. It came in at #18 on the list. Pharr, Texas is the setting for this very small institution of higher learning. The private for-profit school handed out basic certificates to 369 students in 2021-2022.
Around 78% of those degree recipients were women.
South Plains College came in at #19 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Basic Certificate Trade Schools in Texas ranking. Levelland, Texas is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The public school handed out basic certificates to 482 students in 2021-2022.
Students from Texas who attend South Plains College full time pay an average of $4,473 in tuition and fees. If you are from out of state, expect to pay an average of $4,857. Around 27% of those degree recipients were women.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since South Plains College does offer online classes for certain majors. During the 2020-2021 year, about 61% of the undergraduates at the school took at least one online course.
San Jacinto Community College did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for trade school students to get a basic certificate. It came in at #19 on the list. San Jacinto Community College is a large public school located in Pasadena, Texas that handed out 640 basic certificates in 2021-2022.
