This report analyzed 118 schools in Pennsylvania to see which ones were the most popular basic certificate programs for trade school students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our analysis found Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics to be the most popular school for trade school students who want to pursue a basic certificate in Pennsylvania. PIA is a private not-for-profit institution located in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania. The school has a very small population, and it awarded 143 basic certificates in 2021-2022.
If you don’t receive financial aid, you can expect a bill for $17,145 to cover tuition and fees at PIA. The school does not offer an in-state discount. Of those students who received their degree, 8% were women.
The excellent basic certificate programs at All-State Career School - Lester helped the school earn the #2 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular trade school schools in Pennsylvania. With a ranking of #16, Fortis Institute - Forty Fort did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for trade school students working on their basic certificate. Forty Fort, Pennsylvania is the setting for this very small institution of higher learning. The private for-profit school handed out basic certificates to 80 students in 2021-2022.

Westmoreland County Community College came in at #17 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Basic Certificate Trade Schools in Pennsylvania ranking. Laurel Business Institute landed the #18 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular basic certificate trade school programs. Laurel Business Institute is a very small private for-profit school located in Uniontown, Pennsylvania that handed out 66 basic certificates in 2021-2022.
The average tuition and fees at LBI is $11,470. In-state students do not receive a discount, however you may be able to reduce your price if you receive financial aid. Around 92% of those degree recipients were women.
LBI does have options available for those who want to take online classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. In fact, around 47% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2020-2021.
With a ranking of #19, Pennco Tech-Bristol did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for trade school students working on their basic certificate. Pennco Tech-Bristol is located in Bristol, Pennsylvania and has a very small student population. In 2021-2022, this school awarded 54 basic certificates to qualified students.
Around 91% of those degree recipients were women.
Fountain of Youth Academy of Cosmetology ranked #20 on this year’s Most Popular Basic Certificate Trade Schools in Pennsylvania list. Located in Bellevue, Pennsylvania, the very small private for-profit school awarded 53 diplomas to qualifed basic certificate students in 2021-2022.
