Our analysis found University of Alaska Southeast to be the most popular school for trade school students who want to pursue a basic certificate in Alaska. UAS is a small public school situated in Juneau, Alaska. It awarded 111 basic certificates in 2021-2022.
Full-time students from Alaska pay an average of $8,726 in tuition and fees if they choose to attend UAS. Out-of-state students pay an average of $25,041. Of those students who received their degree, 54% were women.
One thing to take note of is that UAS does offer online classes in some areas. In 2020-2021 about 68% of the undergraduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
The excellent basic certificate programs at Alaska Career College helped the school earn the #2 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular trade school schools in Alaska. Alaska Career College is a private for-profit institution located in Anchorage, Alaska. The school has a very small population, and it awarded 53 basic certificates in 2021-2022.

A rank of #3 on this year’s list means University of Alaska Fairbanks is a great place for trade school students working on their basic certificate. Fairbanks, Alaska is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The public school handed out basic certificates to 75 students in 2021-2022.
The average in-state tuition and fees for students at UAF is $9,612. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $26,073. Around 72% of those degree recipients were women.
You may have the opportunity to take online classes at UAF. During the 2020-2021 year, about 79% of the undergraduates at the school took at least one online course.
A rank of #4 on this year’s list means University of Alaska Anchorage is a great place for trade school students working on their basic certificate. University of Alaska Anchorage is a fairly large public school located in Anchorage, Alaska that handed out 159 basic certificates in 2021-2022.
In-state students pay an average of $7,508 in tuition and fees if they attend UAA full time. Those students who come from outside the state pay an average of $21,635. Of those students who received their degree, 62% were women.
UAA does have options available for those who want to take online classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. In fact, around 87% of the undergraduate population registered for at least one online class in 2020-2021.
A rank of #5 on this year’s list means Alaska Vocational Technical Center is a great place for trade school students working on their basic certificate. AVTEC is located in Seward, Alaska and has a very small student population. In 2021-2022, this school awarded 26 basic certificates to qualified students.
Of those students who received their degree, 27% were women.
Ilisagvik College came in at #6 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Basic Certificate Trade Schools in Alaska ranking. Ilisagvik College is located in Barrow, Alaska and has a very small student population. In 2021-2022, this school awarded 6 basic certificates to qualified students.
